  • Airbags: Will my airbags still work with your bumper? Our bumpers are designed to be compatible with the airbag, but we Currently do not claim airbag compatibility because our bumpers have not been crash tested. The more we have researched this specific subject we have found that the only way for true compliance is to do an actual crash test. Because these are costly, we do not at this time claim our bumpers to be airbag compatible. We have had customers report airbag deployment in collisions. Please note however, that the air bag itself is not directly connected to the bumper. The bumper itself may affect the crush rate of the vehicle. The sensors that detect crashes, are independent of the bumper and usually are mounted on the body or in the dash. They detect rapid changes in motion/acceleration. To learn more about how Airbags work please follow this link: How airbags work

B

  • Bumpers: Yeah, we got ‘em…they’re awesome.

C

  • Control Arms links are available for the FJ Crusier.

D

  • Dealer: What is the nearest dealer to me? Check under the “Dealer” tab for links to Expedition One dealers across the world.
  • Dealer: How do I become a dealer? Please email us at info@expeditionone.biz and ask about becoming a dealer for more info.
  • Deer: Can your front bumpers stand up to impact with a deer? Personally the author has not had the opportunity to test this (thankfully). The diamond style bumper was designed for a customer with that particular request however, and many customers purchase the Diamond and Bull Bar bumpers to protect from impact with animals in particular. So far so good…
  • Discounts: Ongoing special is FREE winch shipping in the lower 48 of a winch when purchased with your Exp One BUMPER. We do offer a discount for military personnel, EMT/firefighters, please contact us for info. Any other specials will be announced on our website home page and the forums. E

  • Excel Hook: Can be installed on a synthetic line with a stainless steel thimble or tube thimble if you are not using the removable gunnebo sling hook. Our Epi9.0 S package comes standard with a 10 ton Excel hook installed on the line.

F

  • We can think of a lot of great four-letter words that start with F such as, frank, fast, free, full, fool…should we go on?
  • Fairlead. Fairleads are an accessory to the winch and are not included with a bumper purchase, but are included with your winch purchase. A winch with a steel cable generally uses a roller-style fairlead. A winch with a synthetic line typically uses the aluminum fairlead. Our Superwinch synthetic line packages DO NOT include the blue, Superwinch fairlead but have the UPGRADED, heavy duty Expedition One aluminum fairlead. The blue Superwinch fairlead can be swapped out, you would just need to pay additional shipping costs to have it shipped direct to you from Superwinch. FJ Cruiser Trail Series front bumper: Please see our website/webstore to view many options. “Custom” options generally require 4-6 weeks production time.

G

  • Geri cans: Our unique design and patent, priced at $76.99 and holds just over 4 gallons of fluid. Designed to be stacked flat and will not leak. Has multiple mounting points if you’re using it on a rack or atv. Fuel comes in red, yellow, black and military green and water comes in white and black and is FDA approved for drinking (meaning plastic is comprised in a somewhat different manner than the fuel containers). Currently, fuel cans are not available for sale in the US unless you are planning to take or ship the can to another country, thanks to new EPA regulations. Water cans are available and we are working on providing cans that will meet new US regulations.
  • Geri mounts: They are being prototyped, hope to have several options available as soon as possible!

H

  • Hi-Lift Jack Mounts $69.99. Horizontal design sits behind the spare on our carrier system. We are working on a vertical design .
  • Using a hi-lift on the JK rear bumper: As far as the hi-lift goes, yes it is strong enough and there are some mounting notches in it that you can use. So far in our tests, what happens a lot of times is that the bumper will shift and causes the tire carrier to swing oddly so it may have to be adjusted after using the hi-lift mount points. There are two points underneath the bumper that are set up so you can drill holes into the frame to prevent that from happening but we haven’t been able to test it much yet because we don’t have our high-lift mounting system on the market yet.
  • Hours of operation: Expedition One hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm MST excluding major holidays.

I

  • Install: Instructions and some supplemental install videos are on our website under the “resources tab” or videos can be found on You Tube (we recommend searching for “expedition one install” ). Most installs are mostly a bolt-on procedure with minimum drilling. Watch for new install videos posted on our website soon.

J

  • JK Spare Tire Lift bracket: Max recommended tire size is 35” although technically can support a 37” tire. JK Rear bumper/tire carrier smooth motion system: The original smooth motion system. Rattle-free and holds up to 40” tire.

K

  • Why does the new KL bumper cost $1,910.99?
Cost is based on materials, labor, profit, etc. The main factor with all steel and aluminum products is the availability of materials and the cost of said availability in today’s environment. The material markets have changed dramatically in the past 5-6 weeks. Depending on the raw stock, prices have risen 30-40%. The replacement cost of the OEM bumper is about $1,400.What is included in the bumper price?

    · 3/16″ steel winch box/internal bumper

    · 3/16″ steel transition skid plate

    · 3/16″ steel radiator frame reinforcement (and transition to OEM engine skid plate)

    · 3/16″ aluminum bumper skin

    · Black, textured powder coating

    · All necessary fasteners

    · Detailed instructions for disassembly of OEM hardware and assembly of Exp-One hardware.

    · Features: 1″ thick clevis tabs for standard 3/4″ shackles, Hi-Lift jack lift points, increased approach angle

    · Total Weight: approx. 100 lbs

What is the Washer Fluid Relocation Kit?
Since the primary design of the KL Bumper is to open up the front wheel exposure, the washer fluid reservoir on the driver’s side and the intake air goose neck on the passenger side needs to relocated. Washer Fluid Relocation Kit is an option to replace the OEM reservoir with an easily accessible reservoir that has an increased capacity of 2-gal. The kit comes with a 3/16″ steel, off-road battery/reservoir mounting bracket and metal tie down straps, which replaces the OEM plastic battery bracket. The kit does not include a battery. A smaller aftermarket battery similar to the Optima Redtop footprint will be required. The OEM pump, float sensor and tubing are reused.

How big a project is installing the KL bumper?
Estimated 3-5 hours depending on your skill level and efficiency. No special tools are required. All mounting holes use existing OEM geometry. Requires relocation of some lower front quarter panel internal components like the washer fluid reservoir and the intake air goose neck. TH owners will need to trim 1/4″-1/2″ from the lowest point of the front quarter panel fascia. Non-TH owners may require more trimming based on fascia design.

How come there are no fog light cutouts?
The original prototype design included fog light cutouts; however, installation of the fog lights impacted the headlight mounting brackets. Rather that modifying the OEM headlight mounting brackets, it was decided to remove the fog lights. Fog lights can be mounted on the top of the bumper or on the center hoop as an accessory.

    Does your bumper support winches?
So far we have only been able to actually test fit one winch and so we are recommending the ComeUp Seal Gen2 9.5 NON-integrated winch for best fit at this time. Other winches in the 8,000-9,000 lb range will also fit however we have not test fit other specific models yet. The biggest restrictions you will run into with winch fit will be the height and the ability to ‘clock’ the clutch handle so those are things to watch for in determining winch fit. If you have a specific winch in mind and want to send us the measurements we can give you a general idea if it is likely to fit.

  • Lights, aux.: FJ/JK bumpers have mounting tabs for up to two, 7” round auxiliary lights. We carry various PIAA auxiliary light options, our personal favorite is the PIAA ATP series in fog or driving. The Expedition One Tundra front bumper can fit up to three, 8” round auxiliary lights . FJ rear bumper light options include the PIAA 510 driving or fog light (installing PIAAS in the FJ rear bumpers require you to remove the black plastic grill i order to properly fit), or the Hella driving light. Lights, in-port: We carry PIAA and Hella lights. If you are looking for a specific type of PIAA or Hella light and do not see it on our website, send us an email or give us a call-we may have it in stock or be able to have it shipped directly to you.
  • Lights: Do you recommend a driving light or a fog light? Just depends on personal preference really. The PIAA fogs have an amber lens and are good in fog (of course), snow, and rain driving conditions. Super White driving lights are nice for nighttime driving/areas with lots animals that like to hang out in the road or jump into it real quick as you drive by.
  • Lights, JK front bumper: Can I do a custom light in the JK front bumper? Our full width front bumper is set up to utilize your stock fog lights however, a custom port can be done at an additional cost if you would like to use the PIAA 510 light. Please contact us for details.
  • Light ports: Can I order a bumper WITHOUT the light ports? Bumpers may not be ordered without the light ports because to do so would require a major revision in manufacturing process.
  • License Plates: We don’t have a particular spot on our bumpers for your license plate due to the fact that every state has different regulations on plates. We know several customers have chosen to use magnetic clips if they prefer not to drill into the bumper.
  • Location: Where is Expedition One located? We are located about 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City, UT in Ogden, UT.

  • PIAAs: Can upgrade any bumper order to include PIAA 510 driving or fog lamps for the light ports. Those wanting extra protection from deer/nighttime driving we recommend the PIAA 520 ATP as an auxiliary light which comes in either driving or fog lens. The 510’s can be ordered with the ATP lens if requested. Pictures: Check out our photo gallery links for more photos of all our products, prototypes, apparel, and trail runs.
  • Powder Coat (some also refer to it as “paint”): We use a textured black powder coat on all our products but its not too heavy of a texture. We do have pictures of the coat we can email if it is requested. Powder coat warranty is 30 days.
  • Powder Coat: Can I get a custom color?  Any of our products can be ordered without powder coat (see pricing for info). We typically do not do custom powder coats as it takes longer and is more expensive, but recommend that customers wanting a custom coat order our products without coat (“bare”) and have them custom coated locally. Pulley Block: Also referred to as a snatch block. Using a pulley system, allows you to double the strength of your winch

  • Receiver Hitch: You can utilize your stock receiver hitch on all our rear bumpers.
  • Receiver hitch, FJ Rear: $179.99, integrates with your stock FJ.
  • Rear Backup Sensors: The FJ rear bumper will allow you to utilize your rear backup sensors. The Tundra rear bumper has this option as well however due to vehicle variance, we cannot guarantee that your sensors will work with the after-market set up.
  • Refunds will be given as an in-store credit or refunded with a check.

S

  • Sag: Will the bumper weight cause my vehicle to sag? Sag will likely occur over time. Our show vehicle has approx ¾” of sag over the year and a half it has been on. If you want to stick with a stock set-up, coil spring spacers can be easily added. Otherwise, a spacer lift will even your vehicle out. If you’re using an OME suspension, we recommend you use medium springs. If you are using a coil over, the shocks will be adjustable.
  • Skid Plates: There is a skid plate that comes with our FJ front and JK front bumpers. On the FJ you can replace the stock aluminium skid plate after installing our bumper, but you don’t really need it and it might look a little funny. The Basic DX bumper does not come with a skid plate, but the Expedition One Rubi Skid, was designed to work with all the Expedition One JK front bumpers.
  • Shipping: For single bumper/product orders we generally ship DB Schenker common LTL carrier, or FedEx ground which takes anywhere from 3-10 business days, depending on your location in the lower 48. We can and do ship international and can provide ocean and air freight quotes. Shipping, free: Ongoing offer for free shipping on a winch in the lower 48 when purchased with an Expedition One BUMPER
  • Sliders: See our website for the latest and greatest FJ and JK 2 door and 4 door sliders.
  • Spare Tire Lift Bracket: Can hold up to a 35” tire. Technically, can fit a 37” but we do not recommend it.
  • Sticks out 1” from the vehicle and lifts tire 2”.
  • Steel Cables: The Superwinch EPI 9000 comes with 5/16″ x 100ft steel cable. Steel cable’s breaking strength is 12,000lbs. You can order a steel cable alone as well on our webstore at a phenomenal price.
  • Supercharger: Will bumper work with a TRD Supercharger? Yes, with some serious modification to your charger.
  • Synthetic Line: Stronger and safer than a steel cable. We recommend them for anyone planning on using their winches in recovery very often. Our package comes standard with a blue line , however you can special order black, yellow, or orange for an additional fee, please contact us for details. Specialty “fire lines” can be ordered in red., drop ship fee applies as well.  Our Superwinch Talon SR packages include a 3/8” x 80’ synthetic line, heavy duty Exp One aluminum fairlead, and 10 Ton excel hook installed on your line.

T

  • Towing: We have not tested for towing with motor homes or using tow bars attached to the front bumper. For insurance purposes, we currently cannot ok bumpers for that use. A company that installs tow bars would be a good source of information. We could supply any pictures or information about our bumpers if that would be helpful. We have a customer who did his own modifications to add a tow bar and posted his modification and install online:  Customer Mod thread : http://jk-forum.com/showthread.php?t=42932
  • TJ: Front and Rear options available, check out our website and webstore.
  • Touch Up Paint: We recommend Rustoluem Textutred Black Outdoor Paint available at your local hardware store. Anyone with a glossy finish should go with the Rustoleum Satin Black.

  • Warn: The Powerplant/Dual Force will fit in the Expedition One JK full width front bumper & Tundra front bumper. Will NOT fit in the Basic Series, or the FJ front bumpers. The Warn 9.5Ti will fit as well.
  • Winches: Most winches rated up to 9000lbs fit well on our bumpers. We recommend and carry Superwinch winches and offer free shipping on a winch in the lower 48 when purchased with a bumper. If you want a good read on winches we recommend the article in Moab Jeeper mag “Winches in Hell” : http://www.moabjeeper.com/articles/general/listing.cfm?articleID=353.  Most WARN winches rated up to will fit our bumpers (the exceptions being the Powerplant and the M8274).
  • Winch Plate Covers: Customers who will not be utilizing a winch often ask if we have a cover or plate for the winch hole. We currentl have FJ covers available, priced at $69.99 coated.

X

  • XJ bumpers: We do not currently make them but would recommend Hanson Off-Road (www.hansonoffroad.com) or Trail Ready (www.trailready.com)
